Position Overview

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Support Services functions at S:US are carried out by a team of professionals with diverse backgrounds who share deeply in the S:US mission. We are a resource that provides support to the individual program departments to assist in the pursuit of our mission. The purpose of the Finance Department at S:US is to fulfill the organization’s mission in the most effective and efficient manner and to remain accountable to stakeholders, including clients, partners, funders, employees, and the community. In order to accomplish this, the Finance Department commits to providing accurate and complete payroll data for internal and external use by the Executive Team and the Board of Directors.

 

The Senior Accountant will be working on all aspects of the general ledger and month-end close process. They must be analytical, organized and willing to learn and challenge themselves in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will adapt quickly to change and will champion the advancement of policies, structure, procedures, and controls that will enhance the accounting/ finance.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and relevant supporting schedules
  • Analyze balance sheet and P&L accounts on a monthly basis, prepare related schedules
  • Maintain TRF schedule, prepare TRF release journal entries
  • Maintain Fixed Assets records and depreciation
  • Review security deposits and prepare journal entries when lease expires
  • Prepare monthly accruals & prepayments journal entries
  • Prepare monthly insurance allocation
  • Prepare monthly Agency admin allocation
  • Coordinate month end close process and financial statement preparation and reporting
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and various grant audits
  • Assist with accounting and financial inquiries by researching and interpreting data
  • Responsible for on-going projects as per request of Assistant Controller, Controller and/or senior management
  • Actively identify and implement process improvements
  • Provide training and mentorship to staff in order to promote advancement and achievement of company goals.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Problem-solving skills – Ability to be creative and analytical. Examine issues and data and search for inconsistencies, reconcile inconsistencies and recommend then implement solutions.
  • Math skills – Ability to use math to calculate data and ensure that information is correct. Ability to work with numbers and make calculations with minimal errors.
  • Communication skills – Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Treat colleagues with respect and find the best way to help answer their questions so that they can be successful in their job duties.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum five (5) years accounting experience in non-profit organization.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel (pivot table and VLOOKUP must), MS Word and Outlook.
  • Experience in Serenic Navigator.
  • Possess critical thinking, analytical, interpretative, and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, and demonstrated an ability to deliver high-quality work.
